She received her bachelor of arts from Grinnell College in Iowa followed by her medical degree from the University of Iowa. After completing her residency training at Michigan State University and the University of Michigan, Dr. Singer practiced general pediatrics for eight years. During that time, she served on the faculty as an associate clinical professor at Michigan State University. In 1987, Dr. Singer completed a fellowship in medical ethics at Michigan State University. In 1990, she completed a fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology at the University of Michigan. Dr. Singer has been at PCH since 1990. Throughout her career, Dr. Singer has consistently shown interest and expertise in the area of education, for which she has received several awards. Her clinical interest in bone tumors and sarcomas has led her to build the hematology/oncology department’s Bone Tumor and Sarcoma Program, an important component of which is active participation in clinical trials. In addition, Dr. Singer has interests in palliative care and medical ethics. She is the coordinator and instructor for the PCH physician end-of-life care course and is a current member and former chairperson of the PCH bioethics committee. She has recently authored a book chapter on end-of-life care. Dr. Singer is a member of both the Palliative Care Committee and the Bioethics Committee of the Children’s Oncology Group and a member the American Society of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology.
