John J. Hutter, Jr., M.D. , is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Arizona and a board certified Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist. He fulfilled requirements for a B.S. at Manhattan College, graduating with honors in 1963. Dr. Hutter then earned his medical degree at the State University of New York, graduating Magna Cum Laude, in 1967. Following a pediatric residency and NIH training in pediatric hematology, Dr. Hutter joined the medical team at the University of Colorado Medical Center, acting as an Instructor of Pediatrics and the Associate Director of Oncology from 1973 to 1976. Since 1976, he has been a member of the faculty at the University of Arizona (Tucson) and an important part of the medical staff at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center (UAHSC). Dr. Hutter currently serves as Director of Pediatric Clinical Oncology at UAHSC, Director of the Mountain States Regional Hemophilia Center at UAHSC, and Section Chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at UAHSC.

Thanks to the early vision and capable tutelage of Dr. Hutter, the Department of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at UAHSC now boasts a well-rounded, farsighted team of physicians that offer inpatient, outpatient, bone marrow transplant, home care and research based therapeutic options to their patients. At the present time, Dr. Hutter’s primary areas of clinical interest are hemophilia, childhood anemias, and bone marrow transplantation.

Dr. Hutter has co-authored over forty published papers, with topics ranging from immunophenotyping to care of the child dying from cancer. He has secured fifteen research grants, and is a frequently invited guest lecturer at scholarly conventions. Dr. Hutter was selected as one of the best doctors in America (Pacific Region) in 1996, 2000 and 2002.

Dr. Hutter is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the Western Society for Pediatric Research, the American Society of Hematology, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, and the Hemophilia Research Society.
