While Dr. Bagatell’s primary clinical interest is in pediatric solid tumors, she treats children with all types of cancer. She is dedicated to the philosophy that cancer is a curable disease, and has established an active pediatric oncology research team at the UAHSC. Additionally, Dr. Bagatell is currently working with other physicians on a variety of projects, including the harvesting of circulating tumor cells for measurement of cancer related proteins, and the opening of a Phase I trial that will offer a drug, 17AAG, which has been previously unavailable to pediatric oncology patients. Dr. Bagatell believes that if the medical community continues to treat cancer as it has always been treated, the morbidity and mortality associated with cancer will continue to be what they have always been. Research is the key to finding new, curative treatments for cancer. Therefore, because minimizing the morbidity and mortality of pediatric oncology patients is a priority for Dr. Bagatell, research is also a priority. Dr. Bagatell is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
