In her eighteen years as a nursing professional, Shelley has had the opportunity to work in the following specialty areas: Medical/Surgical, Emergency, Urgent Care, Newborn Nursery, Newborn Intensive Care, Pediatric Intensive Care, Geriatric Care, Labor and Delivery, Inpatient Pediatrics (Child/Adolescent and Infant/Toddler), Pediatric Outpatient Care and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Research. As a Clinical Nurse Leader, she supervised the nursing staff of a 16 bed pediatric unit from 1997-2002. She has successfully passed the National Pediatric Nurse Certification exam, the Critical Care course provided by University Medical Center (UMC) of Tucson, and is certified in the administration of chemotherapy. She has been trained and certified in advanced neonatal, pediatric and adult life support. She is a member of the American Association of Pediatric Oncology Nurses. Pediatric oncology is Shelley’s professional
passion. She is convinced that cancer, like smallpox and
diphtheria, is a curable disease. It is
also her belief that the role of nursing in the search for new therapeutic
regimens cannot be overestimated. She has been working as a research
nurse with Dr. Rochelle Bagatell in the Department of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
at UAHSC since 2002. © 2004, ACTION. |
